Blackcurrant – Ribes nigrum L.
The blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum) has a high content in phenolic compounds. Its antioxidant action is linked to the high percentage of flavonols such as mircetina and quercetin derivates and the anthocyanins (delphinidin and cyaniding derivates). There are also hydroxycinnamic and hydroxybenzoic acids. From its seeds is obtained an oil rich of essential fatty acids (ALA and GLA) which, for their anti-inflammatory properties, can benefit the treatment of arthritis and osteoarthritis.
